Serving Beyond Stigmas

The Rotaract Club of Grand Cayman aka RCGC is made up of young professionals and students ages 18 to 32 who strive on serving the community. It is one of the main reasons individuals join Rotaract in order to get involved and to give back to the community they live in. RCGC is involved in several initiatives throughout the year in the local community and worldwide. As part of the Rotary family, we in RCGC are deeply rooted in community service in order to improve the quality of life in their communities and when selecting a project the club uses these Rotary areas of focus:

  1. Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
  2. Disease prevention and treatment
  3. Water and Sanitation
  4. Maternal and Child Health
  5. Basic Education and Literacy
  6. Economic and Community Development

With keeping the areas of focus in mind, the RCGC have several ongoing need base projects throughout the year. These ongoing projects are projects that have been an initiative of the club for more than one year. RCGC is proud and very grateful to be continuing our work with community by participating throughout the year with these initiatives!

The Brown Paper Bag Project for Clients of DCR

The Brown Paper Bag Project is an ongoing initiative that began in 2012 in collaboration with the Department of Community Rehabilitation.

Every month members decorate and pack brown paper bag lunches for clients of the DCR who are a part of the mental health court system in the Cayman Islands.  The Department approached the Club to fund and to provide volunteers to ready the lunches. RCGC was more than delighted to help and 8 years and counting of the project being established, the Club is looking forward to more years of working with the DCR.

The Brown Paper Bag Project provides lunches for about 18 to 21 clients every month, some who do not have access to a healthy meal on regular basis.  Each lunch consists of a hot sandwich or patty, a fruit snack, chips, an apple,  and juice. Members meet  on the evening prior to  court to decorate bags with inspirational messages and pack lunches. These packed lunches are then delivered to the Department for distribution at court.

Ready, Set, Snack! for Feed Our Future Cayman

The Annual "Ready, Set, Snack!" initiative began in 2016 and partners with local, non-profit Feed Our Future whose mission is to eliminate childhood hunger and support intellectual nourishment in the Cayman Islands

During the month of August our snack drive collects snacks as well as monetary donations from the community through store collection dates and office drives. A list of healthy snacks (approved by a nutritionist) is shared with the community and encouraged as the main source of snacks to be donated for collection. These snacks are then distributed to those in need at various schools and 100% of the proceeds raised are given to Feed our Future to purchase more snacks or hot lunch meals for the school children.

Windsor Park Cleanup

Quarterly members of RCGC will come together for a park cleanup at Wyndsor Park which we maintain in collaboration with our sponsor club Rotary Sunrise.

Picking up litter, maintaining the grounds, and fixing up elements of the park present an excellent opportunity for team-building and community service. We invite you to be part of the change.

Blood Drives

Members of the Rotaract Club of Grand Cayman are encouraged to become blood donors for the Blood Bank at the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority.

The importance of donating blood is highlighted in an annual blood drive where members encourage and promote the community to donate blood either partnering or working with another club or organization or taking the initiative into their own hands.

Nadine Andreas Foster Home Outings

Over the years, RCGC has been involved with providing outings for the residents at The Nadine Andreas Foster Home.

It has been wonderful to develop a relationship with the home and with the residents.  Members look forward to outings with the residents, staff and their families.  The outings vary from Turtle Farm visits, Beach BBQs, Movie Outings and others fun activities throughout the year.
